uberASSIST is an uberX option that is designed to provide additional assistance to seniors and people with disabilities.

With uberASSIST, our top driver-partners are invited to opt-in to receive training on the necessary knowledge and safety requirements of people with different accessibility needs. 

Driver-partners undertake a training session officially endorsed by the Australian Network on Disability to learn how to assist riders with disabilities or mobility issues, or who require additional assistance.

All uberASSIST vehicles can accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers and scooters.

What is the benefit to me?

uberASSIST is a great way to assist your community and complete additional trips on the Uber platform.

As a driver-partner on uberASSIST, you will still be able to accept uberX trips. Prices for uberASSIST will be the same as uberX. This should allow you to receive more requests, and together, we can make a positive impact for those in our community who require an extra hand.

1. How are uberASSIST driver-partners trained?

Uber is a proud member of the Australian Network on Disability, which has been essential in developing the training module in order to provide uberASSIST. Partners must first attend an information session, watch a training video, and then complete an online quiz.

2. What is the cost of uberASSIST trips?

The fares on uberASSIST are the same as regular uberX trips.

3. What vehicles are being used?

Vehicles that are acceptable on uberASSIST are regular uberX vehicles. However, we cannot accept some vehicles due to the difficulty in some passengers entering and exiting the vehicle. In general, vehicles that are not suitable for uberASSIST are high vehicles (e.g. large 4WD’s or utes), lowered vehicles, or very compact vehicles.

4. How can I become an uberAssist partner?

To be eligible to be an uberASSIST driver-partner, you must first have completed enough trips to be comfortable with the system and have a rating of 4.7 or higher. To join, simply register your interest and we will be in touch with the next time for an information session.

5. How will riders request an uberASSIST vehicle? 

Riders who are eligible to use uberASSIST will be able to enter the code ASSISTAU in the promotions section of the app, to access the uberASSIST vehicle option.

6. How will I know it is an uberASSIST trip?

When the request comes through, you will be able to see that it is an uberASSIST request. See the screenshot on right for more information.
